After launching his career as a visualmedia reporter for the Asahi Shimbun in 2004, Kanagawa realized the importance of stories from his experiences reporting the Paris terrorist attacks, the Tohoku earthquake, and other events in Japan and abroad.He eventually decided to pursue those interests and study documentary filmmaking in New York, where he worked on films that garnered nominations at the SXSW film festival and other showcases.
